A recent survey indicates that 71% of South Africans have no hesitancy in COVID-19 vaccination. This suggests that demand for vaccination will be high and impose a large-scale undertaking by public and private sector hospitals, private and public sector health professionals and pharmacies.
COVID Vaccine Financial Risk – Private and Public
As a consequence of increasing COVID mutants and the consequent impact on vaccine efficacy, the risk to the SA economy and private enterprise at any one time is incalculable. Accurate financial risk projections therefore remain unquantifiable.
SISONKE Trial
Persons who did not receive their vaccination through the SISONKE trial and have an unredeemed voucher, will be issued a token for the Phase-2 roll-out.
The Electronic Vaccine Data System (EVDS) is the scheduling system used for persons to register to be vaccinated. EVDS is linked to the logistics and distribution system and the approved administrating vaccination professional.
UFFP
The Unity Forum for Family Practitioners (UFFP) is assisting individual GP practices who request participation in the vaccination roll-out process. It is reported that GP accreditation is intended for the Phase-3 roll-out programme.
Phase 2 Roll-out
Phase 2 roll-out is scheduled to commence on 17th May 2021

In the next 2 weeks, accredited pharmacy groups, private hospitals and medical scheme sites will be announced.
Some sites have been operational since the start of the Phase-2 Roll-out.
Old age home vaccination sites will include those old age homes registered on the system.
