South African President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on the 15th June 2021 to give COVID-19 updates as well as put South Africa on adjusted level 3.
The updated restrictions include the below as of the 15th June 2021:
- Curfew will now be from 22h00 to 04h00. The closing times for the below establishments will be 21h00 to allow for their staff and customers to get home before curfew starts.
- Cinemas; theatres; casinos; museums, galleries, archives; public swimming pools; beaches and public parks; game parks, botanical gardens, aquariums and zoos; gyms and fitness centres; restaurants, bars, shebeens and taverns; venues hosting auctions; venues hosting professional sport; social, political and cultural gatherings.
- Funerals are restricted to 50 people or where a venue is small, 50% of its capacity with a 2 hour service limit and no night vigils or post funeral gatherings permitted.
- Gatherings may not exceed 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors. Should a venue not have this capacity, it must not exceed 50% of the venue capacity.
- Health protocols must be observed at gatherings including the 1.5 m distance between people.
- Alcohol sales from a licenced establishment for offsite consumption will now be limited to purchase between 10h00 and 18h00, Monday to Thursday, excluding Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
- Onsite consumption at a licenced establishment remains the same, with strict protocols being followed.
As the global statistics tell us the numbers are decreasing for both new cases and deaths, some countries are still experiencing increased numbers.
Keep wearing your mask, sanitise and keep socially distant from those around you in order to take South Africa out of the third wave and keep the numbers decreasing thereafter.
