COVID-19 – South African Vaccine Update

As of 26th July 2021, South Africa went from adjusted level 4 down to adjusted level 3 relaxing only some of the restrictions.

On Monday 26th July 2021, Aspen released the first Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 Vaccine doses from the Gqeberha Plant in the Eastern Cape, to be distributed locally and into Africa.

Currently, in South Africa, those aged 35-49 can register to be vaccinated from 1st August 2021. Those aged 18-34 can register to be vaccinated from 1st September 2021.

Weekly, the number of South Africans being vaccinated is increasing, with last week seeing 1.25 million doses being administered. The weekends are gradually picking up. At one stage only 10, 000 vaccines were being administered over a weekend. Over the last weekend this increased to 60, 000 making it the best weekend to date.
